“. . . casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
I’m a wedding watcher. Later today I’ll happily take my seat among fellow watchers and witness the sacred covenant union between Christian believers. Celebrations of weddings, and numerous traditions that surround them, are woven into the fabric of our culture and a privilege to behold. But I’m well aware that months of planning pour into its organization, and as with all detailed events, worry may creep in.
In our everyday lives, worry all too easily lures us into a web of twisted thoughts and downcast hearts. When we succumb to its power we feel weighed down as if cement blocks are strapped to arms and legs. We flail, fight, and splash water everywhere while struggling to sift legitimate concern from that which is not. Our heads ache, stomachs burn, fatigue engulfs, and frustration ignites. Perhaps the problem lies with holding too tightly to things best left to God.
The Serenity Prayer says it well –
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”
God’s Word says it this way –
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word makes it glad.” Proverbs 12:25
What do you need to release to God? Loosen your grip, open your hand, and relinquish all to Him.
