An updated eyeglass prescription means this writer recently picked out nifty, and hopefully stylish, new frames. Distant vision had improved while close-up took a dive. That, or print is simply shrinking and arms are much too short. I’m excited for those new glasses, and even more, for enhanced focus and clearer vision.
A steady dose of negative news clouds our mental focus and obscures spiritual vision. We’re saturated with word of terrorist activity, wars in the Middle East, refuges overrunning Europe, national political shenanigans, more campus shootings, and even local DA and police turmoil. Stress and anxiety pile up while sour thoughts overload, emotions stretch thin, physical bodies tighten, and spirits darken. We feel helpless and flames of frustration and fear engulf forests of feelings.
There is a better way to view the world’s woes.
God still holds all power.
“It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom; and by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens,” Jeremiah 10:12.
“Both riches and honor come from You (God), and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might . . .” 1 Chronicles 29:12a.
“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created,” Revelation 4:11.
God still holds all authority.
“And the Lord will cause His voice of authority to be heard,” Isaiah 30:30a.
“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth,” Matthew 28:18.
And God still enables believers with strength.
“He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power,” Isaiah 40:29.
“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually,” 1 Chronicles 16:11.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might,” Ephesians 6:10.
It takes more than new eyeglasses to live with godly perspective. Choose to fill God’s divine prescription and see through the clear lenses of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then the world is a beautiful place and we can survive, and even thrive, in hope.

“Dear Lord, help me see You as the words of Jeremiah 10:6 proclaim: “There is none like You, O Lord; You are great, and great is Your name in might.” Thank you, Amen.”
