A nasty sinus infection has stuck like glue for the last several weeks. It’s the kind that fills your head with mush and your throat with fire. It’s not bad enough to scramble back to bed, but enough to feel like I’m trudging through molasses with 50-pound leg weights.
Usually I base a devotional on something that happened during the week. But with experiences limited to four walls and a slice of greenery seen through the back window, well, there’s not a lot of material to work with. So I thought, “What do I need to focus on while the rest of the world flies by?” and that brought me back to my word thought for the year, “do good” for God, others, and self (see blog December 2015 “New Year, New Word”).
For God – Am I growing in greater knowledge and in intimacy with Him? Do I worship regularly with other believers? Do I pray and read the Bible daily to know Him better?
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might,” Deuteronomy 6:5.
For others – Am I sharing God’s Word? Am I spreading God’s goodness and kindness? Do I ever mention Jesus’s merciful act? Do I forgive?
“And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them,’” Luke 6:31.
For self – Am I making healthy choices with food and exercise? Am I putting good and lovely things into my life? Are my surroundings organized so that my mind is clear to focus on important things?
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things,” Philippians 4:8.
I could ask many other questions, but for now, these will do (I’m still working a half-baked brain!). I know my answers to these questions. What are yours?
Blessings of God’s grace-filled good! Prayer requests?
“Dear Lord, Help me place and keep You at the top as I live my life loving others and self. Thank you, Amen.”
