The Showers of Blessing

2 Samuel 23:16, “So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water from the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD;” (Italics mine)

The club car jostled, jarred, and jumped over the blazing hot concrete-like ranch land as I drove to check on the cows this morning. The two ponds that provide drink for the cattle sit low, and either scattered raindrops of a gentle shower or pelting blast of a rain storm would prove a welcomed blessing. I am in charge of neither, but I can pray.

The writer of the above verse also viewed water as a blessing. After the Lord provided David’s men great victory in battle, David indicated a drink from the well of Bethlehem would be appreciated. His men brought it; however, David refused to drink, and instead poured it out as an offering to the Lord.

I like the concept of passing blessings I receive from the Lord onto another. If I keep it for myself, do I not begin to stagnate causing someone else to miss a blessing as well? I am not to be arrogant or self-centered about sharing blessing, as if to say, I know, or have, or been more blessed than you know, or have, or been blessed. I am called to simply be a conduit of all blessing, be it material, spiritual, financial, health, or personal.

I imagine God’s blessings are not given for self-satisfaction, although that generally comes, but something to temporarily hold in one’s hand before letting go. What do you think?

“Dear Lord, help me to loosely carry your blessings then share them with others. Thank you, AMEN.”

Blessings of … more blessings! Prayer requests?
