“But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one,” 2 Thessalonians 3:3.
While those of us in the global West may not comprehend the full impact of this verse, no doubt, many in Africa, Asia and the Middle East know evil’s ugly reality all too well. Persecution, imprisonment, loss of life and limb, mutilation, and rejection by family and friends slam these believers regularly. Even witchcraft practices oppress many. I view this verse, first of all, literally. There is an Evil One who seeks to destroy God’s children and His creation:
“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour,” 1 Peter 5:8.
But greater, far more significant news is that this Evil One is not more powerful than the triune God. Our God is the faithful Lord, Almighty, Good Shepherd, King of Kings, Savior, Wisdom, Redeemer, and Alpha and Omega who offers all strength and protection to carry the oppressed through all of the Evil One’s manufactured storms and manipulated trials. It is God who is the Superior Force, the Preeminent Being, and all Majesty and Honor is due to this God, the only God who reigns supreme forever and ever.
“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created,” Revelation 4:11.
You and I are engaged in spiritual battles and the Lord God fights for you, dear believer.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12.
Will you trust our faithful Lord to strengthen and protect you today? Won’t you ask Him right now?
“Dear Lord, allow me to know you as the most powerful force not only in the world, but also in my life. Thank you, Amen.”
