Car Tires and Comfort

My car tire gave out when it picked up a nail not long ago. Of course, the leak was slow and I remained blissfully unaware until the next morning. As I prepared to leave the house and enter the garage, there it was – the car listing to its back side with half of a tire glued to the ground instead of upright and perky. I rued the loss of my morning and made arrangements for repair.

Sometimes life is like that tire. We happily motor along, settle in until we’re punctured and life is never the same. Health decreases while pain and symptoms increase, and for a while, its full effects remain hidden until we hit a wall. Relationships go south, but we’ve been happy enough until separation or divorce slaps us in the face and we fall flat. We toss money around until bank balances reflect a big fat zero or we slave away at work until one day the boss calls us in and without warning states, “No more.” Life feels sucked out and we’re completely deflated. Repairing the damage reaches far beyond our mortal strength.

God comforts:

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest,” Matthew 11:28.

“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows,” Luke 12:7.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted,” Matthew 5:4.

God encourages:

“Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength,” Nehemiah 8:10b.

“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:44.

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven,” Matthew 5:16.

And God does not leave us alone:

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you,” John 14:26.

Will you stand strong this week no matter what life brings? How will you rely on HIM?

Blessings of perseverance! Prayer requests?

“Dear Lord, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14). Amen.”
