How Do You Handle Anger?

Have you ever exploded in rage? I have. So what causes it?

Psychologists say fear, frustration, or emotional hurt can lead to anger. Anger expresses itself inwardly or outwardly. If inward, depression can result. If outward, we’re into rage. But life happens. We all feel these at times. We get angry and stressed. We grow bitter, refuse to forgive, break relationships, and even encounter physical ailments. We suffer mentally, emotionally, and physically.

So how do we process anger and avoid rage? What does God’s Word say?

“Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly,” Proverbs 14:29; “Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense,” Proverbs 19:11

“Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,” Ephesians 4:26

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God,” James 1:19, 20

What brings you fear, frustration, or hurt? Why? Perhaps you’re tired, sick, too much on your mind, or a short fuse. Maybe the offender is lashing out from a bad day or hurt in their own life. Is there any truth to their words or actions? It may not be about you at all.

Without God’s perspective, we live in a rage-fueled mind-set. How will you handle your anger?
