How many times in the last year did you throw out a mindless ‘thank you’? For me, it’s almost a reflex to a waitperson, store clerk, or anyone who opens the door. My mama taught me well, but could my expressions of gratitude hold a higher purpose than mere ingrained manners?
Consider Hebrews 12:28. “Since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe.”
God’s gift of eternal life is reason enough to pour out gratitude along life’s journey. Gratefulness becomes not something we do, but something we are, and not just appreciation for what benefits us like good friends and family, pleasant weather, answered prayer, and close-in parking spots. A lifestyle of obedient thankfulness stands as God’s way to serve Him. Not as a courtesy, but as reverent service with all honor due The Lord God Almighty, the Triune God who is worthy of all worship, glory, and praise.
Psalm 50:23, “He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me.”
How will you gratefully serve God in 2019?
“Holy Father God, please empty my heart of all that prevents me from serving You with profound gratitude every day. In the beautiful name of Jesus, Amen.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18, “in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
