Consider this Biblical word study on fear…
1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” God casts out the fear in my life and I am being perfected in His love.
Genesis 15:1, [Abram Promised a Son] “After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.” God is my shield especially when fear thoughts enter. I can hold them captive and render them useless.
Genesis 26:24, “The Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; Do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you, and multiply your descendants, For the sake of My servant Abraham.” God is with me and blesses me abundantly.
Exodus 14:13, “[The Sea Is Divided ] But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.” The Lord provides me with salvation; not only eternal salvation but from daily fear! My fears never get ahead of God or through Him, and fears never get ahead of me because of Him!
Numbers 14:9, “Only do not rebel against the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.” Stay close (obey and love) to the Lord and there’s no need to fear anyone. The Lord is with me. Reject fear by not allowing fear thoughts to take hold; don’t allow them to become words, actions or habits.
Deuteronomy 1:17, “You shall not fear man, for the judgment is God’s…” God was, is, and will handle all my fears past, present and future. God is in control. I’m not and don’t have to be.
Deuteronomy 1:21, “See, the Lord your God has placed the land before you; go up, take possession, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’” God places blessings in my life and I possess His confidence without fear.
Deuteronomy 3:2, “But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not fear him, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land into your hand;” There is no need to fear any longer because God takes care of all fears in His perfect way and the victory is mine through God.
Deuteronomy 3:2, “Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you.’ I need not fear any person or any thing because God fights for me!
Joshua 8:1, “[ The Conquest of Ai ] Now the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear or be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land…” God knows my future and fear has no place in it. He cleared the way and fear does not exist in His path.
Joshua 10:8, “The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands;” God gives me the ability to reject fears that want to creep into my brain. They are already dealt with by Him and I simply recognize that fact.
Joshua 10:25, “Joshua then said to them, “Do not fear or be dismayed! Be strong and courageous, for thus the Lord will do to all your enemies with whom you fight.” I can be strong and courageous because God handles all my enemies and all things I would fight.
2 Kings 6:16, “So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” I love this! God works mightily in the spiritual realm on my behalf! Thank you, Lord!
1 Chronicles 22:13, “Be strong and courageous, do not fear nor be dismayed.” God’s promise to me! I have His strength and His courage.
1 Chronicles 28:20, “Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.” God is completely and thoroughly faithful!
2 Chronicles 20:15, “and he said, “Listen, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: thus says the Lord to you, ‘Do not fear or be dismayed because of this *great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.” The things I battle – fear and fret about - are not for me to fight. They are a part of God’s battle and when any fear approaches me I can immediately turn them over to God. I keep my eyes on Him.
When I hold onto them or try to battle on my own I fail, and then I hurt deeply which can turn into depression. The Enemy wants me believe the lies of fear. Satan, the father of lies delights when I fall to fears. But God is in control and wishes not any to perish – not eternally and not in this present life under the burden of fear. I am God’s child and I will not perish anytime, anywhere for anyone because of His great love through the Lord Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. Even when I feel overwhelmed (*great multitude) I need not fear for God fights FOR ME.
2 Chronicles 20:17, “You need not fight in this battle; station yourselves, stand and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out to face them, for the Lord is with you.” It is not my fight, but God’s. He is with me in whatever I face, whenever or wherever I face it.
Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” I will ‘valley walk,’ but I need fear nothing because of God’s continual presence. He gives me the tools (rod and staff) to walk through, head held high. He has walked, is walking and will continue to walk with me.
Psalm 27:1, 3, [ A Psalm of Fearless Trust in God. ] [ A Psalm of David. ] “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?” “Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.” God defends me and I need not fear anything no matter what happens.
Psalm 34:4, 7, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.” “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.” God is with me as Deliverer and Rescuer.
Psalm 46:2, “Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;” There is absolutely nothing to fear!
Psalm 49:5, “Why should I fear in days of adversity, When the iniquity of my foes surrounds me…” There is no reason for me to ever fear.
Psalm 78:53, “He led them safely, so that they did not fear; But the sea engulfed their enemies.” God keeps me safe and He handles any and all enemies and I don’t have to, as if I could!
Psalm 112:7, “He will not fear evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” I need not fear anything anyone says; no words spoken to me or words I read.
Psalm 118:6, “The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?” Nothing man can do to me is eternal. Only God’s actions are everlasting.
Proverbs 3:25, “Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes;” Adversity will come and fear will try to enter but God helps me and I will immediately give over any and all fears to Him.
Proverbs 29:25, “The fear of man brings a snare, But he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted.” Giving in to fears chains me but trusting the Lord frees me.
Isaiah 35:4, “Say to those with anxious heart, “Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; The recompense of God will come, But He will save you.” God saves me from all fears and vengeance is God’s, not mine.
Isaiah 41:10, 13, “‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” “For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’” God is with me all the time – why would I ever be fearful? God strengthens me. God helps me. God upholds me.
Isaiah 43:5, “Do not fear, for I am with you…” God’s presence is reason enough to never fear anything.
Isaiah 51:7, “Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, A people in whose heart is My law; Do not fear the reproach of man, Nor be dismayed at their revilings.” I don’t need to be upset or fearful of others’ rages and words. I listen to God, not man.
Isaiah 54:4, “Fear not, for you will not be put to shame; And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced; But you will forget the shame of your youth…” God will handle any harsh memories. He is in control and heals me and redeems the past for His glory and good.
Isaiah 54:14, “In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you.” God protects me and establishes me in His righteousness. I am settled, firm and secure.
Ezekiel 2:6, “And you, son of man, neither fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions; neither fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence, for they are a rebellious house.” People’s harsh words have no power over me even though words may hurt. The presence of those who wish me harm has no power over me. God will handle anyone who tries to hurt me either with words or otherwise.
Daniel 4:5, “I saw a dream and it made me fearful; and these fantasies as I lay on my bed and the visions in my mind kept alarming me.” Even dreams and thoughts can bring fear but give those to God, too!
Haggai 2:5, “‘As for the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear!’” God’s Holy Spirit lives in me and there is no place for fear.
Zechariah 8:13, “…Do not fear; let your hands be strong.’ Fear is not of God. Strength is from God.
Matthew 10:26, ““Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.” I need not fear the past and talking about pain. Let the truth see light and help others through that truth.
Matthew 10:28, “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Fear, respect, reverence and awe are due to God and none else. Why be fearful when the Almighty God of All loves me?
Matthew 10:30-31, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.” God holds me in high value and cares about the details of my life and the things I care about.
John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” Peace is only from and through God. Fear and trouble vanishes because of the peace found only in the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” God’s love and fear cannot hold the same space in my life.
So I choose God’s love over any and all fear. Amen and AMEN. What about you?
