Psalm 118:24, “This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Happy-colored and vivid-hue flower plantings filled our day yesterday. The family dug, placed, shifted soil, and watered till the beds sat thickly dotted with red and pink snap dragons, golden marigolds, coral geraniums, lime green sweet potato vines, with a couple of variegated hostas. Our budding beauties took up residence in pots, along the driveway, in three raised wooden planters and beside the front white picket fence. While flowers are not necessary to landscapes they sure complete the look and add smiles to our faces (and the neighbors’!)
God grants us a new day every 24 hours with new choices to make in our words and actions. We can offer joy, kindness and love or not. Just like flowers in a landscape those things are not absolutely necessary to get through our day, but don’t they bring an ease and comfort to the hours? Don’t they smooth relationships and oil conversations? Don’t they calm strife and anxiety? And, don’t they demonstrate the character of The Lord Jesus Christ?
Today, maybe you and I can share joy, show kindness, and shout love to others even if they don’t or won’t deserve it. Oh, and stop awhile to savor God’s fabulous floral arrangements in your neighbor’s yard, and add a few to yours.
