The Holy Spirit and Filled Holes

Blessings of the Holy Spirit! Prayer requests?

Recently beloved family members beautified their yard which included digging out fence posts concreted in by a previous owner and filling in the leftover holes. While heavy rains may create indentations where posts once stood, the deep holes disappeared and the ground is now level. Grass will soon cover any worn areas.

When I get down I liken the feeling to falling into a deep hole or down a well. Usually it happens when I feel overwhelmed by a packed schedule, crushed by physical pain and illness, or discouraged by negative news. I drift to the place where dark thoughts abound and the future appears bruised and bleak. If I attempt to crawl out on my own I end up only grabbing handfuls of shifting soil and sliding back down into the dirt of despair and the muck of misery; the place where I’m tempted to rage in anger or drown in depression.

But when I focus on The Father of All He fills the holes of my life with shovelfuls of grace, mercy, and love. Through Him I rise to the surface, and once again, find myself living on smooth level ground ready to receive His Seeds of Truth. Yes, harsh storms of life may cause occasional divots of despair, but I don’t have to end up dumped into darkness and buried by burdens. I can trust Jesus who already asked the Father to give us His lasting Presence, the Holy Spirit.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever” John 14:16

The Holy Spirit helps when we hurt, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness…” Romans 8:26a

Gives order to our jumbled words and thoughts, “… for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.” Romans 8:26b

Teaches in times of trauma, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.” John 14:26

And, points me to Jesus, “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me” John 15:26

Will you open your hurting heart to God? Will you point another to Him?

“Dear Lord, please enable me to see You above and beyond any and all pain and problems. Thank you.”
