Are You Prepared for the Future?

On a recent drive to the ranch we encountered heavy stop-and-go traffic before we realized a multi-car accident blocked several north and south bound lanes.  We worked our way passed the pile-up and traffic returned to normal speed on our south bound side.  However, north bound cars remained stopped mile after mile until we got far enough away from the accident to see cars traveling at normal speeds.  Those drivers were completely unaware of what was ahead.  I thought if they tuned into the radio and heard word from the traffic report they could prepare and either move over to the right-hand lanes or exit immediately.

Isn’t that like life?  We don’t know what the future holds.  We may be caught in the snarled traffic of health issues or death of loved ones, crushed by the weight of accidents in finances, relationship, or job choices, or delayed in progress with school, marriage, or retirement.  Sometimes we wish someone would communicate with us so that we could avoid problems or know when to exit a situation or relationship.  We want to be prepared, but how?

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Someone did communicate; God sent His Son to show us the way.  Although we can’t know future details, we can be prepared.  We can tune into His Word in the Bible, listen to Him through prayers for wisdom and guidance, join the ‘flow of  traffic’ with a supportive community of believers, and choose to travel life with health in body, mind, and soul.

1 John 4:9, ” By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.”

In what ways are you preparing for the future? Or are you?

“Dear Lord, please help me prepare for what lies ahead this day, tomorrow, next week, next year.  Thank you, AMEN.”
