I lost a friend this past week. He was a man of kindness, generosity, and great faith, and I will miss him dearly. His memorial service was one of praises for his gentle, and sometimes jovial, behavior and sensitive attitude with both family and friends. He had a way with the spoken and written word and encouraged me with appreciation and thanks. He served the Lord, and through him, many others.
Jack is an inspiration to me and I want to follow his actions of kindness, gratefulness, and service. Life is short, but Jesus promised believers that our life can be new life in him. Evidently no matter how hard we try we cannot make the old life work.
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4
It is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which Jack so beautifully demonstrated, and constant openness to God that our actions and words will be felt.
