I have such a ridiculous amount of material to learn for an exam (Seminary course in Trinitarianism) later this week, I almost just want to roll over and laugh. At least 3 inches thick of single sheet papers sits before me and I’m supposed to be thoroughly familiar with all of it. My heart pounds, my head throbs, and I have three choices. Get busy and frantically attempt to memorize the impossible, which is what my compulsive tendencies say to do. I can walk away and say that it is all in God’s hands, what I need to know will somehow instantly come to mind. OR, I can continue to wade through, learn what I can, hopefully retain most if not all, and trust God to carry me through the unknown questions.
It seems like much of life is learning to balance action and complacency with trust. In Genesis 11, Abraham was instructed by God to get up and go to an unknown land. He went and God was with him. In Exodus 3, Moses was called out by God to return to the unknown in Egypt and lead God’s people out. He went and God was with him. The Israelites in Egypt were called out to follow Moses into the unknown wilderness. They went and God was with them, too.
It seems often trust and action, rather than complacency, go hand-in-hand. God leads, we follow into the unknown, and once there, joyfully discover God is already there waiting to lovingly carry us through.
In what situations do you need to trust God this week? What action is God asking you to do? How will you answer Him?
“Dear Lord, help me to actively step out into the unknown and trust you. Thank you, Amen.”
Blessings of full assurance as you trust God! Prayer requests?
