Eyes on Jesus

Yesterday I followed my husband down two-lane highways and onto a busy multi-lane freeway on the way back from an outing. I felt confident in his knowledge of the roads, turns and curves, stop signs and lights, speed limits, and most efficient lanes in which to drive, but I had to follow closely without losing sight of him. Worry never entered my mind because I knew he was thoroughly acquainted with the final destination, our home.

It seems that following Jesus is a little like what I experienced. I am confident in the Lord’s knowledge of the roads, turns and curves, stops and starts, and efficient ways to travel life, but I must stay close and keep my eyes solely on Him.

Mark 1:7, “And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

Worry need neither be a travel companion nor packed in any baggage.

Matthew 6:25-27, 33-34, “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

I’m completely confident that Jesus is thoroughly acquainted with my final destination, His heavenly home.

John 14:2, “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.”

If I can carefully follow a car, how much more diligently will I follow the Lord Jesus Christ, Who stands alone as the ultimate Guide throughout eternity.

“Dear Lord, help me to only have eyes for You. Thank you, Amen.”

Blessings of reliance on Jesus! Prayer requests?
