“He brought us out from there in order to bring us in…” Deuteronomy 6:23
Buried deep in the pages of Deuteronomy are simple words, but with them God reminded Israel that He had a different plan, a better plan, and a plan that stretches throughout eternity. God brought the Israelites out of Egyptian captivity, not to wander the desert, but to enter a new land, the Promised Land. But the Israelites continued to cling to a mindset of slavery.
In order to be brought into something, first we must be brought out of something else. God brings us out of sin, both the sin we were born into and the sin we continue to slosh around in, and we must reject whatever robs God of ultimate priority in our lives. Therefore, we must destroy the chains of fear, frustration, and hurt. We must break the stranglehold of anger and its two faces of rage and depression. We must crush anxiety and its destructive coping addictions. And we must recognize we cannot do so on our own merit or power. We need God, and we need the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus. We need His grace-filled act carried out on the cross. We need God’s great love.
Only then can we be brought in.
The avenue is love, the destination eternity, and ours becomes one of hope, forgiveness, healing, purpose, and peace.
Jesus shatters all forms of slavery, and the Easter message is enough! Will you enter God’s new land?
Dear Lord God, help me know your love, accept your grace, and live in your hope. Amen.
